But why are people loving this dog so much?

A little history

American bully dogs are born and bred in the USA. the first bully puppy was born in Virginia, California as a cross between the American shire Terrier and the American Pit Bull Terrier. By merging these two dogs, American bully breeders were trying to create a unique version of the pit bull that was friendly, loyal, energetic, sociable, and many other desirable qualities.

Structure and personality of the American Bully dog

Size

The standard American bully dog measures 18 to 21 inches from the shoulder and weighs between 70 to 120 pounds. Bear in mind that this breed comes in three other sizes namely pocket, American bully Xl, and Classic American bully. The American bully Xl can weigh up to 150lbs.

Below is a video of Shadow, one of Manmade Kennel’s prized American bully dogs.

The pocket American bully is the smallest of this breed measuring 14 to 17 inches from the shoulder and weighing up to 22lbs. The pocket American bully may sometimes be referred to as the Micro, mini, or Micro mini American bully.

Physical appearance

American bully dogs have a short, glossy, and smooth coat (the coat can feel slightly stiff in some bullies). Their coats come in different shades such as black, red, blue, brindle, fawn, and chocolate. At Manmade Kennels, we also have red nose pitbull puppies, blue nose pitbull puppies, and tri color American bully puppies for sale.

The American bully dog has a larger head than the standard pitbull dog. Also, the head is broad, square, and proportional to the body. These bully dogs also have large jaws with a biting force of 300 psi. Suffice to say American bullies can make great guard dogs with the right training.

The legs are shorter compared to the normal pitbull with an exception of the classic American bully. American bully XL dogs have wider bodies with thick defined muscles.

Personality

Despite the notion that pit bull breeds are aggressive, we at Manmade Kennels like to refer to our American bully dogs as ‘giant teddy bears’. We strongly believe that any dog not raised right is bound to show aggression in later years.

American bullies are sweet-natured and very trustworthy dogs. They love to show affection and are suckers for cuddles and companionship. This particular breed is very intelligent and brave, and we can attest to the fact that American Bullies are very protective of those they love.

If you want a mild-mannered dog that is great with children, get yourself an American bully dog. These dogs are their happiest when out playing with kids in the swimming pool or out in the field chasing a giant red ball!

Intelligence

American bully dogs are very intelligent breeds. They are eager to please their masters which makes them quick learners. Start training your American bully xl dog when they are puppies. It allows you to establish dominance early which is necessary if the dog is to respect you when it grows up.

Start by training simple commands and graduate to more complex ones. Remember this is an intelligent dog, so they always love a challenge. Also, reward-based training is the best way to train an American bully puppy.

At Manmade Kennels, we always train our dogs with a tasty treat to help them learn faster. Our favorite go-to treat is the Bullyade 4-in-1 Soft chews with an amazing chicken flavor. Activity

We must warn you, the American bully is quite energetic and can be a handful if you do not lead an active lifestyle. They are very athletic dogs that require plenty of exercise to release pent-up energy and remain well-behaved.

Fortunately, they do not demand much in terms of activity. Daily brisk walks with their favorite human are enough to keep an American bully Xl puppy happy. Once in a while, you can engage them on heavier workouts to tone their bodies and prevent them from developing destructive behavior.

If you cannot keep up with the energy demands of an American bully, we suggest getting something manageable like a pocket pitbull or the Old English Bulldog. A smaller bully breed would be perfect for an apartment lifestyle too.

Diet

Given their active lifestyle, American bully dogs require a high-quality diet enriched with proteins, vitamins, and minerals. We recommend a raw homemade diet filled with meaty bones, organ meat, veggies, and fruits. It can be tricky getting this diet right at first especially as a first-time dog owner or American bully breeder.
